The Trinity Youth Group (TYG) is a very active group of
youth,
performing many projects and activities within the church, the
community and the state. All TYG members serve as acolytes
and
attend training. This past year, the youth group has planned
and/or participated in an assortment of activities and events that
consisted of the following: monthly meetings, Easter Egg
Hunt;
Halloween Party, games for Shrove Tuesday, assisting the WV
Institute of Spirituality with their mission, collecting items and
mailing out college boxes, worship services, ice skating,
assisted with the Social Ministry Spaghetti dinner. Fund
raisers
included: the East End Yard Sale, soup luncheons, penny drop, Superbowl
sub sale, pepperoni roll sale, December babysitting, recycled
pop
cans, a pet was and car wash at the annual pet blessing, and raffles,
-- these are just a few of the many activities these youth have done
this last year.
The church family at Trinity are proud of their active youth and seek
ways to support and encourage them as they grow spiritually.
Camp Luther, our home away from home. The youth from Lutheran churches
in our Senate go off the grid, meaning no cell phones or Internet
access, every year for a week in the summer in Cowen, WV. We're all a
family there, and the friends we meet there we'll have forever.
Starting as a junior, making your way through intermediate camp, and
finishing as a senior senior, there are many memories you'll make with
people you'll always remember.
There's something for everyone at camp. Of course you have your
classes, but afterwards there's the craft cabin, swimming, sports
challenges, creek stomps, and of course 4-square. Each group of campers
have a night for olympics, there's junior/senior day, and the seniors
have a dance! But don't take our word for it, come check it out for
yourself!
Youth at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church are extremely
active. Not only do they participate in the Trinity Youth
Group
(TYG), but they also serve as Acolytes, musicians, dish washers,
servers..... you name it, the youth do it! We are very proud
of
our youth and their commitment to learn, grow and love in Christ.
Our youth have fun. With Synodical camps, Synodical
conferences -- from parties to serving, we see our youth with
smiles on their faces. This is a prayerful fellowship of young
people. Watching them grow as future servant leaders is a joy
to
the congregation.
SUMMER
YOUTH GROUP HOSTING
One of our occasional outreach ministries is providing overnight
lodging for youth groups on their way to or from summer mission
trips.
Because Charleston is located within a day’s drive of a large
portion
of the population of the Eastern United States, we have the ideal
location as a stopover for these groups. We have several
places
in the
church where groups can put out their sleeping bags and a well-equipped
kitchen where they can prepare their breakfast or snacks. We
provide
information and directions to local fast food restaurants and carry
out/delivery services. If they arrive on Saturday evening and
their
schedule permits, some also join us for worship on Sunday morning.
Many groups also pick Charleston as it is only an hour from the
whitewater rafting and other outdoor adventure activities of the New
River Gorge National River. Many of them will use the
opportunity
to
ride the rapids either on the way to their mission site or on their
return home. Rosa McKinney meets the groups and co-ordinates
this
ministry. Contact the church office for more information and
to
check
on available dates.
