Camp Luther Challenge

Hello Friends of Camp Luther and Luther Hall,

The Care in Regions Program of Thrivent has $2000 that they can give to Camp Luther/Luther Hall if we have a fund raiser that collects $6000! We already have $1000 that the campers and staff collected in order that the Intermediate Dean would not have to have his hair cut!!! Trinity in Charleston (my church) was able to do a local Thrivent challenge and raised $1000 for Camp Luther the couple weeks before camp started. (But we can’t use this in our challenge!) So, we already have a $1000 in our challenge account from the campers and staff!!!!!! Christ Lutheran in Wheeling has already made a pledge of $250! They plan to hold a fund-raising dinner to get their amount within the next two months. St. Peter in Shepherdstown and St. James in Uvilla will do a special campaign the beginning of next year.

However, we need your help now! If you can have your congregation take up a special collection for our Donna Thompson Memorial Challenge either in August or September, or hold a special fund-raiser event within the next two months for this purpose of receiving the $2000 from Thrivent, the campers and staff of Camp Luther would appreciate it greatly. Ask your church’s campers or staff members to help you with this. They can share their terrific camp experiences with your church members. You need to do this by October 1st, please! If you need my assistance for anything, please let me know. I’d be willing to give a short temple talk about Camp Luther and Luther Hall or send you labels for envelopes for your special collection.

Since this is a Thrivent Activity, when you send your collections to me, would you please include the number of Thrivent members that participated? Thanks.

I forgot to tell you why the name for our challenge. Donna Thompson passed away this past spring. She has been a Camp Luther counselor, teacher and supporter for many years. Her sons have been campers, are now counselors and are sending their children to camp! Not only did the campers support the idea of naming this challenge in her memory, they even planted a tree at Camp Caesar in her memory!

I would like you to prayerfully consider this because Camp Luther and Luther Hall need the financial support. We want to continue to make camp affordable for our campers! Many of you have given much in many ways to our camp programs, and we are ever thankful for you!
