ABOUT
US
Lutherans
are one of the oldest branches of the worldwide Christian
church. Founded by Martin Luther, a Roman Catholic
monk in Germany during the 16th century, the Lutheran church
was one of the earliest Protestant churches. We begin
our worship services by singing and speaking the liturgy and
prayers, a ancient form or worship shared by Lutherans,
Episcopalians and other branches of the worldwide church.
At first, the liturgy may seem complicated, but soon the
words and the music become familiar. The liturgy helps
you experience your connection with God and with other
worshipers--including those who lived long before our time
and those who live today and worship using the same words in
many different languages around the world.
The
lessons are from both the Old and New Testaments. The
sermon is always based on one or more of the lessons for a
particular Sunday. During the course of each church
year, the great story of Jesus' life, death, and
resurrection is told through the lessons and sermons.
Music is
an important part of our worship: choirs, handbells,
brass, strings, organs, and the whole congregation make a
joyful noise in Lutheran churches.
We believe
that we are saved by the grace of God alone and not by anything we
do. We need only to believe that our sins are forgiven
because Christ died to redeem us.
Trinity is
part of the West
Virginia-Western Maryland Synod of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America, which is in full
communion with the Presbyterian Church (USA), the
Reformed Church in America (RCA), the United Church of
Christ (UCC), the Moravian Church in America, and the
Episcopal Church
Some
people at Trinity have friendships that extend back decades;
some grew up in this church. Many others have joined
Trinity in the past few years. All have found deep
friendships, help during difficult times, and opportunities
to participate in a caring community of faith. We
enjoy each other's company and find many ways to have fun
together.
